Friday 1st March 2019 - We will stop sending postal notications.
Monday 4th March to Wednesday 6th March 2019 - No access to the Library Management System.
The London Borough of Sutton is a member of the London Libraries Consortium (LLC), which is a partnership of 16 local authorities that work together to enhance the service offer to library customers. Through the cooperation of the partnership, Library Members are able to access not only the library stock within their borough of residence, but also all library materials held by more than 120 libraries across London, through the co-ordination of an inter-authority Library Management System.
All of our customer membership data and library stock is held on the Library Management System.
The Library Management System is provided through software purchased from the best global suppliers for library services. By law, public service contracts are periodically required to be subject to a competitive tendering process to ensure best value for money is achieved in public service delivery. This tendering process was recently completed and as a result a new Library Management System will be installed supplied by SirsiDynix.
The new partnership with SirsiDynix will enable (the LLC or borough name) to develop a new range of services that will empower customers to use the latest technology to access library services from mobile phones, Tablets or PC’s and provide 24/7 access to library resources.
Over the next 2 years we will implement new services. For example our new marketing software will permit customers to receive email notifications of new stock or library events that appeal to you and your family. The new services will be interactive, enabling customers to post reviews and recommendations and act as a social platform for library communities, enabling you to connect with people of similar interests.
This is an historic change in the way we will deliver library services and we will update customers regularly as these new services come on-line. Over the coming years more public authorities will join the LLC, providing Library Members with access to millions of books, e-books, audio books, magazines, newspapers, and music and reference materials. So if you are not a library member now is a great time to join, which you can do at no cost at any library site.
To facilitate this change, we are transferring all of the data we hold to the new Library Management System and providing a comprehensive training programme for library staff.
Between December 2018 and February 2019 we will be testing the transferred data to ensure its accuracy, in preparation for the new system to go live in March 2019. In undertaking this process we will be complying with the legal requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations.
Our aim is to deliver this change with minimum disruption to our customers. However, it will be necessary to make some temporary adjustments to the way we deliver some aspects of the library service during the system changeover in March 2019. Nevertheless all library premises will remain open in accordance with normal operating hours. We will provide customers with a minimum of 1 weeks advanced notification of any changes through the Council’s website and notices within the libraries.
We thank you for your cooperation and patience during this brief period of change.
