Project Updates

23/02/2018:
The new Colliers Wood Library was officially opened by the Mayor of Merton Marsie Skeete, and sports commentator and former rugby player Brian Moore, who lives in the borough. Mr Moore praised the new space as a ‘Welcoming, tremendous facility.’ Councillor Nick Draper, Cabinet Member for Community and Culture, and Head of Library, Heritage & Adult Education Service Anthony Hopkins led the official opening proceedings.
The evening saw the unveiling of a new plaque dedicated to the late Donald Hope, the former librarian after whom the old library was named. His daughter Fiona Hope said of her father: ‘He would be glad to know his memory lives on with the renaissance of the new library.’

Project updates:

12/06/2015: Cabinet has given the go-ahead to the redevelopment of a brand new library for Colliers Wood.  Please bear with us as we close the current building from the 28 July, ready for the contractors to move in and start work. We will be setting up a temporary library at MertonVision, the Guardian Centre, Clarendon Road from 30 July 2015. Opening times will remain the same and you will still be able to enjoy all the facilities currently provided in Donald Hope Library but in a slightly reduced format.

04/04/2016: The foundations have now been laid for the new Colliers Wood Library site and residents will start to see the building going up further over the next few months. Officers have been working hard to finalise the internal works to the library and will be consulting with residents over the internal design of the library soon. Further updates will be posted on this page.
