Colliers Wood development plans
The new Colliers Wood Library was officially opened by the Mayor of Merton Marsie Skeete, and sports commentator and former rugby player Brian Moore, who lives in the borough. Mr Moore praised the new space as a ‘Welcoming, tremendous facility.’ Councillor Nick Draper, Cabinet Member for Community and Culture, and Head of Library, Heritage & Adult Education Service Anthony Hopkins led the official opening proceedings.
The evening saw the unveiling of a new plaque dedicated to the late Donald Hope, the former librarian after whom the old library was named. His daughter Fiona Hope said of her father: ‘He would be glad to know his memory lives on with the renaissance of the new library.’
The new library opened on Monday 5 February, there will be a special Community Open Day on Saturday 24 February from 11am-4pm where a number of special events will be taking place.
The new library will open on Monday 5 February 2018 at 9.30am. Just a minute’s walk from Colliers Wood underground station, the state of the art new library has three floors with a wide range of books for all ages, WiFi and free to use computers. There are also study areas, meeting spaces for hire which can be segmented into separate sections or made into one large area for hire, a café, children’s area and a living roof. The library is fully accessible for all users with purpose built interiors.
There will be a special Community Open Day on Saturday 24 February from 11am-4pm where a number of special events will be taking place.
The new library is set to open in late January 2018 and will be arranged over three levels. Visitors are set to benefit from more space given over to books, a coffee shop, community meeting rooms, special activity zones and a larger children’s area.
The temporary library will close on Saturday 16 December to allow staff time to transfer equipment and setup the new Colliers Wood Library. Customers needing to renew loaned items during the interim can take advantage of the borough’s excellent online service. Loaned items can also be renewed or returned to one of Merton’s six other libraries.

05/09/2017:The new Colliers Wood Library is scheduled to open in early 2018. Whilst we are putting the finishing touches to your new library the temporary library at MertonVision at the Guardian Centre, Clarendon Road, will continue to remain open.

Colliers Wood Library interior consultation results are in
Residents responded to the council with their preferences for how the inside of the brand new Colliers Wood Library should look. The results of a consultation that included two open evenings, an online consultation and a paper consultation can be found here: interior consultation report
The Council has taken on board the feedback from residents and will use it to finalise the specification for the interior design of the library. A procurement exercise to secure a provider will begin shortly.

Interior Design Options
12/06/2015: Cabinet has given the go-ahead to the redevelopment of a brand new library for Colliers Wood. Please bear with us as we close the current building from the 28 July, ready for the contractors to move in and start work. We will be setting up a temporary library at MertonVision, the Guardian Centre, Clarendon Road from 30 July 2015. Opening times will remain the same and you will still be able to enjoy all the facilities currently provided in Donald Hope Library but in a slightly reduced format.
04/04/2016: The foundations have now been laid for the new Colliers Wood Library site and residents will start to see the building going up further over the next few months. Officers have been working hard to finalise the internal works to the library and will be consulting with residents over the internal design of the library soon. Further updates will be posted on this page.
