Library fees and charges are changing
From Monday May 1 some library fees and charges are changing, although computer use and Wi-Fi will remain free for all library members.
The overdue fee will remain at 20p per day, but now only those under 18 will be exempt from a charge for bringing a book, DVD or CD back late. To prevent late fees, items can be renewed in the library, over the phone or by going online. Borrowing periods will also be extended for books for the over 60s and the disabled from 21 to 28 days.
If mobile phone and email details are added to the online library account database, library users can receive a pre-overdue notice by text or email so they can renew books without getting fined. Issuing an overdue notice via post will now incur a charge of £1.00 per notice, although this will not apply for over 60s, the disabled, and under 18s.
To help reduce administration costs and keep more books in circulation, a 50p fee will now be in place to make a reservation on books for over 18s. There will also be new charges for renting DVDs and CDs, at £1 and 50p respectively. Loan periods for under 18s, the over 60s and the disabled will be increased from 7 days to 14 days for DVDs and from 21 days to 28 days for CDs.
