Volunteering in Libraries Volunteering in Libraries

Volunteering is fun, rewarding and it changes lives.

We're looking for people of all ages and backgrounds to help us deliver fantastic projects in our libraries for the benefit of the community. We have opportunities ranging from helping out with our children's activities, to sharing your IT skills by becoming a computer buddy.

Current volunteering opportunities:

If you need any assistance applying to be a volunteer, ask at your local hub library for help.

Volunteering with Enfield’s libraries can help:

  • increase your confidence dealing with the public in a professional setting.
  • you learn skills relating to customer care, confidentiality and Health and Safety.
  • you gain valuable experience for your CV and a reference.
  • give you personal satisfaction from helping other people to realise their potential.

Volunteers must be 14 or over. Volunteers under 18 will need to provide a signature from their parent or guardian before they take up their role.

You will need to provide the contact details of two referees who are over 18 and know you well, but are not a member of your family. We cannot always guarantee a place at your first choice of library, so it would be helpful if you could indicate more than one library, in order of preference, to increase your chances.

Though the roles are unpaid, if you need to travel to a library you can claim travel costs.

There may be a requirement for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance for these opportunities.

Completed application forms will be forwarded to one of your chosen libraries. Staff from that library will be in touch to invite you in for a chat about the role, the hours and any requirements you have.
