Libraries at Night Update

Libraries at Night Presents: Nkomba and Pretending People

Friday 20 September 2019

8pm - Sidcup Library

Nkomba are a contemporary African folk band who play an energetic mixture of Malawian folk songs and African roots music. The band is led by Ron Nkomba who performs on guitar, mandolin and harmonica and sings in English & Chichewa, the national languages of Malawi. As well as interpretations of traditional Malawian folk songs, their compositions draw on experiences and influences from Europe, Asia and Africa which reflect their up-bringing.

Pretending People are a traditional English Folk ensemble who are not only well known on the festival circuit for their musical talents but also as producers of innovative theatre in conventional and non-conventional performance spaces.

The 'Libraries at Night' project was the first of it's kind in Bexley, and was a roaring success.

11 events were held in libraries across the borough, including Central Library, Erith Library, and Sidcup Library. These events had everything from live music and comedy, to murder mystery and an Escape Room.
'Libraries at Night' is hopefully the first of many amazing programmes to be run in Bexley in the future.

Missed out on all the fun? Take a look at some of the fabulous photos from this years programme.

Rock Bands - Live Music

Orphan Gears

A high-octane mix of garage punk, dirt-blues and Sabbathesque heavy rock blended into a non-stop barrage of riffs, angry lyrics and grooves big enough to turn an ankle.

Trash Heads

Formed in 2014 by three old school friends, 'Trash Heads' make a harmonious rock racket. Influenced by a wide range of guitar-based bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Black Sabbath, Arctic Monkeys and Nirvana, the lads released their debut album 'Skyscraper, Heartbreaker' in 2015. With new drummer Martyn recently joined, they have begun recording their 2nd album for release in summer 2019.

The London Vegetable Orchestra

Create your own instrument with the London Vegetable Orchestra

The London Vegetable Orchestra (LVO) is the UK's only ensemble offering audiences literally 'Home Grown' entertained. As the group's name suggests, the instruments are made up of hand crafted local produce, and they sound as incredible as they look! The LVO helped attendees make their own vegetable instrument before they delivered a mouth-watering performance.

Join us for an evening of comedy with Comedy Knights

Comedy Knights and Libraries at Night presented an evening of fun and silly stand-up comedy with MC Grainne Maguire, Jessica Fostekew, Steve Day, and Paul Duncan McGarritty. Comedy Knights have been booking live comedy in unusual venues for over 12 years but were very excited to bring the top acts from across the UK and international circuit to a library after hours. It was a hilarious night full of great jokes and memorable personalities.
