    Join the library

    Joining the library is simple and free. You don't even need to live in Barking and Dagenham.

    Join the Library or ask at your local library.

    If you're under 16 you'll need a parent or guardian to sign as well.

    Why join?

    With your library card you can:

    Borrow books, language courses, download e-books and borrow CDs and DVD's (subject to their classification). There are charges for borrowing items other than books and e-books

    Parent's shelf

    Books that you can share with your child to discuss a wide range of issues e.g. starting school, visiting the doctor, potty training, new baby, sharing, moving house, bereavement and helping your child to learn to read.


    Access free online information and homework help

    Your library card gives you free access, from anywhere and at any time, to a wealth of online encyclopaedias, dictionaries, and other reliable reference sources.

    The online library consists of over 550 interactive stories and activities with:

    and more for children aged 4 – 12+ years.

    Based on National Curriculum and suitable for Key Stages 1 and 2 and the International Baccalaureate (IB)

    More benefits for under 16s

    Free reservations - If you are under 16 you can reserve items that are on loan or listed as at any other library on the catalogue absolutely free.

    No fines - Also, for under 16's there are no late fees.

    Barking Learning Centre and Dagenham Library have film shows for children and families. Contact the libraries for details of what is showing this month.

    Get online with free internet access

    All Barking and Dagenham libraries have computers you can use for free. You will need to be a library member and your parent or guardian will have to give permission for you to use the computers in our libraries.
