Summer fun – special programmes for children and young people over the holiday periods. Lewisham BookstartBookstart is a national programme that encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with their children from as early an age as possible. Bookstart aims to provide a free pack of books to every baby, toddler and three-year-old in the UK, to inspire, stimulate and create a love of reading that will give children a flying start in life. But most of all, we want to show that books are fun. There are three different types of Bookstart Pack:
Here in Lewisham, you can collect your Bookstart and Bookstart + packs from your health visitor at your child’s 7-9 month and two year developmental checks. If you miss out on your pack at either of these checks, you can collect one from any Lewisham Library. Bookstart Treasure Chests are given out at nurseries and pre-schools across the borough. If your child is three and does not have a nursery place, please ask at your local library for further details of how to obtain a pack.
